Twice a year, I end up with Sinus issues. I don’t know if it’s the change of weather here on the Northeast or what, but it’s kind of inevitable and ridiculously annoying.
In the past, I would end up with a full out infection and run to the doctor for a prescription for antibiotics. But, over the last 5 years or so, I’ve been able to manage it on my own and have not let it get to that point.
However, it still happens like clockwork. And while I try to stay ahead of it (because that is truly the key to it not ending up a complete mess), sometimes it creeps up on me. And then I’m miserable.
And that’s what I was dealing with this past week-ish.
Miserable with a capitol M. As I found my sinus issues starting to swirl out of control, this super new-agy concept I’d read about months before popped in my head.
Sleeping with my mouth taped shut.
Sounds crazy and borderline dangerous to one’s health, but there’s actually a good amount of science behind it.
The point of mouth taping is to encourage nasal breathing. Increased nasal breathing compared to open mouth breathing has been linked to improvement in sleep related breathing issues (included snoring), facial and jaw shape, decreased stress, and increased & improved oxygen into the body.
